Dear Parents,
I hope you had an enjoyable half-term. The second half of summer term is always a busy and exciting time in a primary school. Numerous events and outside activities going on, not least with our two residential trips over the course of this two-week period. Our Y6's have been enjoying a trip to PGL this week-you will have seen a snapshot of their trip on twitter, with more extensive photos on the Y6 page on the website. Many thanks go to all the staff who give up their time to make these trips happen; over 20 staff have been needed over this two-week period for the trips to go ahead.
The school are looking forward to working with the PSA in the events coming up in the next few weeks. There is the fun run, the summer fair amongst other events planned. I know they will need lots of volunteers, hopefully you can help where possible in order to support the school and the children in these events. You can see below, the PSA still need 7 volunteers for the fun run next Saturday (18th June).
Money raised
Congratulations to Poppy in Y3 who has completed a sponsored hoola-hoop to raise money for cancer research and the school.
She completed 10,000 hoops and is donating half of the money (£320) to the school and has requested a new computer in the school library.
Smile for five
Sheen Mount appeared in The Week Junior for the 'Smile for Five' campaign. Well done to all those involved.
Playground equipment before school
A reminder that children cannot go on the playground equipment before or after school. This is for insurance reasons. It has become an issue particularly in the mornings, with parents arriving as the gates open at 8.35am and therefore waiting the full ten minutes before the classroom doors open. A reminder also that ball games are not allowed before or after school.
100 club
Congratulations to our winning number this week.

Y6 trip
During my visit on Wednesday to PGL in Marchants Hill, Hindhead, I spoke to some children about their favourite moment.
Ethan "I enjoyed being dressed up as a robot made of cupboard by the rest of my group and then getting soaked! The activity was Robot wars."
Augie "I really enjoyed 'trapeze'. We had to climb up a tall tower of around 15m with metal holdings for our feet. When we reached the top we then had to jump off to reach a large buoy which was suspended in the air about 1m from the platform!"
Iona "I loved the giant swing! We had to work as a whole team to pull the rope of the 2 or 3 people who were sat on the swing all the way up to their maximum height. One of the people who went up on the swing, then had to release it! Everyone felt their tummy go upside down when this happened!"
Xavier "The challenge course was great! There were two different courses. One had a pile of tyres on a wooden pole and we had to traverse through and get through the tyres only one at a time. The other course involved 5 hoops and we had to be inside 1 at all times, whilst again getting across the course!"
-Y5 were fortunate to have a visit from the London beekeepers association on Tuesday. They enjoyed a very informative talk and then shared that in the celebration assembly this week.
Maths opportunity Y5/6.
Please see a maths challenge opportunity from a senior school for those in Y5/6. All the information is in the link and you carry it out and complete it at home and then send it off.

PSA – newsletter contribution 10 June 2022
Welcome back from the PSA committee… into the final half-term of the year and we have lots planned, but we also need your help to ensure all these great events and initiatives are possible. Please make time to volunteer for some of the events… the fun run still needs at least 7 volunteers for the 18 June event to happen… or indeed join the PSA committee for the coming school year!!
First up, some thank yous… then a reminder of the upcoming events… and finally where we need your help.
Thank you very much!
We have continued to see generous fundraising activities, from the pupils, collectively though the Smarties challenge as well as individually, and from our friends at SwimWay, who are generously supporting the Summer Fair. A big and special thanks to year 3’s Poppy du Parcq who raised £320 for Sheen Mount and Cancer Research UK by completing 10,000 hoola hoops!!! Thanks Poppy, you rock!!
Upcoming Events
Fun Run, 18 June – We will have two fun runs on the morning of 18 June, one on the school grounds for Reception and Years 1 and 2 and one from Sheen Gate, Richmond Park to school for Year 3 and up. Refreshments and prize giving afterwards. A great way to encourage fitness, build community spirit and raise funds for the school! Sign-up on Classlist for more details, deadline now Sunday 5pm. Per the above, we are in dire need of some more volunteers to make sure the event happens. Please get in touch with the PSA.
Plant Pledge, June – new plants will be delivered next week for the main bed in the entrance courtyard. Please keep an eye on Classlist as we look for plant sponsorship to raise funds for the completion of the job. Huge thanks to Charlie Nelson for all his horticultural help!
Summer Fair, 2 July – only a few weeks away now, with all class years working hard on their respective activities! In particular, we have a request from the Reception class reps…
The reception reps are organising the toy stall for the summer fair, and we are collecting toy donations please! Please bring any GOOD quality toy donations you have to the table near the PSA shed and leave in the box provided, after drop off any morning between now and Friday 24th June. Please do ensure they are good enough for children to buy - jigsaws/puzzles are complete and nothing is broken or dirty - and if possible, please include batteries! We will be looking for toys for younger and older children. Thanks a lot, Reception reps.
The Sheen Mount Summer Bake Off is back! We are running three competitions this year: adults; reception to Y3; and Y4-Y6. Prizes for the winners and runners-up. You can bring in your cakes on Friday 1st July as either payment for “Be Yourself Day” or as an entry in the competition! Special judges and more details very soon. Any questions please email 4hsheenmount@gmail.com.
Your PSA Needs You! - we continue to appeal for new joiners to the PSA Committee ahead of the 2022/23 school year. We have a great team of enthusiastic parents on the PSA and would love to welcome some new faces! We need people to volunteer to keep up the momentum from this year in terms of events, fundraising and community engagement. Please get in touch if you are interested and have questions about the committee and the roles with which we need help.
SwimWay Crash Courses: Getting Ready For Holiday Swimming
Whether at the beach in the summer, or in the hotel pool; swimming is the perfect family holiday activity. This is why many families use SwimWay’s intensive holiday crash courses. To help their children become more confident in the water and prepare them for swimming while away with the family.
SwimWay’s crash courses take place in private pools in Southwest London and Kensington during half terms and holidays. The classes are open to children of all abilities from 2 years and up, running at the same time every day for week-long intensive courses.
Whether in a private or semi-private swimming lesson, SwimWay’s instructors help the children improve by leaps and bounds due to the intense attention and focus on their needs throughout the week. Combining fun with obvious health benefits, these crash courses are an excellent boost to children's development!
SwimWay summer holiday courses kick off on 18th July and run weekly until the end of August.
