Dear Parents,
Every primary school week is always busy and despite the events of last week, it has been a productive and eventful last two weeks in school. From the Year 1 trip to Hobbledown farm to Year 5 music and assembly rehearsals plus sport trips and tournaments.
Well done to our Year 6s for all their efforts with their SATs this week.
Drop off changes
Thank you for your help with these. The arrangements seem to be working well both at drop off and pick up. A reminder that the classroom doors open at 8.45am and the pick up times are at 3.20pm (EYFS/KS1) and 3.30pm (KS2). The gates open at 8.35am for drop off and 3.15pm for pickup.
Y4-assembly Juniper Hall
Thank you to all the Year 4 team for putting together the fun and information packed assembly this morning. The assembly was very much child led and they all enjoyed themselves in the performance.
Class/year group assembly mobile phone request
We had our first assembly this academic year today from Year 4 and the system we implemented for photos and recording was a success.
We requested no filming or photos during the assembly, so that you get to enjoy the performance and the children get to see faces rather than a sea of mobile phones. At the end, there was an opportunity to take a class photo.
In the EYFS/KS1 class assemblies there will also be the opportunity to spend a short amount of time with your child at the end of the assembly to take any individual/group photos.
We will look into options for the school filming the assemblies and then posting them securely on Google Classroom for those that can't attend.
Notice from the office re clubs
As half-term approaches, please note that the Summer 2022 second term staff-led clubs, starting Monday 6 June, will go live on Arbor on Wednesday 18 May at 8pm.
If your child has already attended any of the clubs in this first half term please do not reapply, so as many pupils as possible have the chance to join. If spaces are available after midday on Monday 23 May, an email will be sent out to let you know.
Teams for matches (whether league fixtures, friendlies or tournaments) are selected by Mr. March irrespective of club attendance.
All clubs will finish on their respective day in the week commencing Monday 11 July. Any exceptions, for clubs running catch-up sessions, will be emailed out to parents. Do also check the school website calendar which is regularly kept updated.
Curriculum Open morning - Friday 20th May from 9.10am.
You will have seen we advertised this with the parents events. We are hoping it will be a mix of the parent engagement events that happened pre-covid in the school.
Namely, seeing various different parts of the curriculum in action around the school, whilst also being able to see your own children's classroom/work. We are inviting you to a typical day in Sheen Mount, rather than a 'showcase'. For example, PE lessons will be continuing as normal.
Please come to the hall after drop off. Due to the numbers expected we won't have seats available for everyone - so please just stand. Myself and Mrs O'Brien will deliver a short 10 minute welcome. You will then be toured around in groups by Y6/Y5 children for around 30 minutes, stopping in a range of pre-determined classrooms. We need to manage it this way otherwise classrooms will become over-crowded.
From 10.00 - 10.30 am you will then be invited to go to the classroom of your children, and you can spend time with them until 10.30am. You will be allowed to move freely around the school to move from one of your children's classes to another. We will ask you all to leave by 10.30 as morning break begins.
We are really looking forward to this event.
NEW GOVERNOR WANTED WITH HR EXPERIENCE
The Sheen Mount Board is on the lookout for a new governor with HR skills and experience. Having undertaken a skills audit recently of the Board's existing knowledge and experience, this is an area which we would like to strengthen. If there are any parent HR directors who may either be interested themselves or willing to tap into their networks to help us find a candidate, please do get in touch at governors@sheenmount.richmond.sch.uk
Cricket-borough success
Well done to our Year 5 Boys cricket team who won the borough tournament yesterday in Bushy Park! Some words from some members of the team:
Josh: We played 5 matches, winning them all. We won all our 3 group matches which took us to the semi-final and then the final. Both these last matches were very close, but we managed to beat East Sheen in the final by 11 runs!
Ben: We arrived at 9am and voted for our team captain for the day - Franklin. We also had a vice captain - Joshua. There were two outstanding highlights, in our second game we managed to get 11 wickets which means they lost 55 runs. In the semi-final, one of our pairs managed to get 30 runs. But the best part was our team work.
Ayan: We worked really well together as a team and helped and supported each other. If anyone made a mistake we encouraged them. All of this helped us win.
Some children from Year 5 were also fortunate to visit Lords for a county cricket match as part of the Middlesex schools day. They had a great time taking part in activities and watching first class cricket.
Communication
A reminder, I am more than happy to speak to parents at drop off and pick up, or you can contact me directly at:

PSA Corner
Smile for Five – Thanks to the huge support of so many parents and carers, we have managed to raise over £1000 and we are still counting! It has been wonderful to see the children actioning for the happiness of themselves and others by connecting through a smile. We hope it has evoked great discussion amongst families regarding our feelings and the strategies available to us to lift our mood (National Mental Health Awareness week). Mr Holmes will be announcing how the school plan to spend this money on a research-evidenced mental health project in the next couple of weeks.
PSA Recruitment - we continue to appeal for new joiners to the PSA Committee ahead of the 2022/23 school year. After 3 and 2 years on the committee, respectively, Jodi Rowlands-Hunt and Andrew Gardiner are standing down as Chairs after the summer term. We have a great team of enthusiastic parents on the PSA and would love to welcome some new faces! Please get in touch if you are interested and have questions about the role of the committee.
Upcoming Events
Plant Pledge, May – following the successful garden and school grounds clean-up in March, we need to replant the main bed in the entrance courtyard. Please keep an eye on Classlist in the coming week, but we will be looking for plant sponsorship to raise funds to complete the job.
Fun Run, 18 June – back due to popular demand! We will have a fun run on the morning of 18 June. Stay tuned for more details shortly.
Summer Fair, 2 July – planning is well underway, in particular for the Mid-Summer’s Grotto! Further detail to be communicated shortly via the class reps.
100 Club
Congratulations to Liza Newton who has won £100 in this month’s 100 Club Draw, witnessed today by Mr. Stefanini! To be the next £100 winner, email sm100club@gmail.com to sign-up ahead of the June drawing. We have a number of people who have signed up, but have not completed the forms, so we will be in touch again shortly. The more the merrier… you’ve got to be in it, to win it!!!
As always, if you have any general PSA-related questions or want to get involved, please contact us via email (smpsachair@gmail.com) or through the class reps.
