Dear Parents,
It has been great to re-engage parents in school events throughout this week. We hope you enjoyed looking at the children's books and the sun was kind to us for the KS2 Cross-Country. Reception got our outside concerts off to a flying start this morning.
I was able to attend the Y2 trip to the London Eye on Wednesday. We were graced with fantastic weather and the children enjoyed their trip; it's important we make use of all the wonderful possible school trips at our disposal in London and outer areas.
Some words from our Headteacher for the day (today) Poppy in 3MW
I am Poppy du Parcq, and I am the head for the day. My experience has been amazing!! A big thank you to all the reception kids, teachers and to Mrs O'Brien for the lovely concert! Everyone was so polite in the celebration assembly saying lots of wonderful pleases and thank yous! After the concert I had to give the 3 reception classes a sticker each and even Rabbits class got 1 gem for their hard work.

Ukraine day
A reminder on Thursday 31st March the children will be invited to wear something blue or yellow. Below is the national collection for schools. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/first-news-schools-appeal
Some entrepreneurial Y6 girls have asked to make various blue or yellow accessories and will be giving these out. Instead of taking lots of cash they will have signs at their various stalls saying suggested donated amounts online. The event will be on Wednesday 30th March after school, with anything left on the stalls being offered on Thursday morning.
A reminder please that, whilst World Book Day and Red Nose Day are very much fun celebrations, this event is to show how much we are thinking about Ukraine. I would therefore please request that you just wear one item of blue/yellow and not a whole outfit or costumes.
Clubs
We are excited to bring you a range of new clubs with mixed year groups. It is an important part of school life. Amongst the increased offers are coding, language and a wider range of sports - netball, tag rugby & cricket.
A reminder that today was the last day for all clubs for the term. Club providers are taking bookings now for summer term, and school-run clubs will go live on Arbor on Monday 28 March at 8pm. Club timetables are on the school website.
School lunches
They have been a range of meetings between myself, office staff members and our catering provider Accent over the previous weeks. They, and the head chef, have also met the school council and they are pleased to bring a range of initiatives.
- A visiting nutritionist will speak to groups of children for around 30 minutes on topics such as 'brain food and 'sugar awareness'.
- There will be Meet the Chef sessions for parents. The dates will be confirmed in the near future and we will bring you information how to sign up.
- The information on the menu is now daily presented on the screen by the servery.
- A cookery club will run in the school day, with children selected by a lottery.
Sports report
An excellent result from the boys' football tournament - thank you to our match reporters.
-Y6 Borough football tournament by Alex and Louis Y6.
On Wednesday 16th March a joint team of Y5 & Y6 boys played in a football tournament consisting of 35 teams. First, we played in the group stage with 4 other teams. Our team succeeded, not losing a single match and qualifying for the cup tournament. In our first game in the knockout stages, after a tense match, it finished with a 0-0 draw-thus going onto penalties. Finally, we triumphed over Queens with both of the Leos scoring and excellent goalkeeping from Atharva.
In the quarter final, after another stressful match, it ended 0-0, resulting in another penalty shoot-out-this times against St Edmunds. Winning the penalties once more, we progressed not the semi-finals. Unfortunately, in the following match we conceded our first goals, losing against Collis. Later, they went on to win the tournament-positioning us in 3rd place.
- Well done to all the KS2 children for their efforts at the X country on Thursday. It was a great community event and good to all get outside and use some local facilities to have some exercise.
- It was great to see significant numbers at the trial session for a netball club this week. We look forward to this club starting.
Ex-pupil work experience
Whilst spending the week doing work placement at Sheen Mount, ex pupil Tara was able to help plant a cherry tree in our sensory garden. The garden is dedicated to one of her classmates and his brother. The tree was bought with a donation given to us by Mrs Maille when she retired in the summer.
Parent/child/staff feedback
Thank you to those who have taken the time to fill in the feedback survey for some new initiatives. The link will be sent on the parentmail for those that have not filled it in.
Despite making the school's position clear on the changing of classes, it is very much a survey and we will read and take note of all the feedback.
Parent engagement events this term
A reminder of the parent engagement events that are coming up. Singing concerts:
- Year 1 and 2 - 9.15am - Wednesday 30th March
- Year 5 and 6 - 2.45pm - Wednesday 30th March
- Year 3 and 4 - 2.45pm - Thursday 31st March

End of term finish time - Friday 1st April
This has been published as 2pm, however it would seem right to keep within the two different pick up times. So R/KS1 will finish at 2pm and KS2 at 2.10pm.
A reminder that Tuesday 19th April is an INSET day and therefore the start of term is on Wednesday 20th April.

Sheen Mount Easter Hunt
We've created an Easter Hunt for the children to complete during the Easter holidays with a smile.
How it works:
You purchase clues from the PSA via Classlist and pick up the clues from the team at school drop off between 28th March to the 1st April, the last week of term. Hard copies of the clues will also be available to purchase as well as pre-packaged bags of chocolate eggs.
Once you've found all the clues and completed the answers, we ask that you email the PSA sheenmountschoolpsa2021@gmail.com by 20th April with your child's name, class and answer sheet and the winners (one from each version of the Easter Hunt) wins a chocolatey prize.
