Hello everyone,
Thank you all for your response to my message about the increasing Covid cases at school. I have really noticed a change in behaviour concerning mask wearing and I am so grateful for that. Thank you, too, to the parents of the classes that have been particularly affected. I have had nothing but support from you all and that makes such a difference. I am also pleased to
be able to tell you that all classrooms now have their air filters and the children are happily naming their new friends! Through your generosity, we have also been able to place filters in the staff room, the offices and even the kitchen; our school chef, Gintare, is very happy. Sadly, I know that this won't be the last time that I will have to talk to you all about Covid. It takes up so much time here at school and so I also need you all to understand the tremendous pressure this is putting on my Admin Team. Every case has to be followed up, emails sent, PCR tests registered, the DfE contacted and the local authority kept up to date. Therefore, I would really appreciate your patience when phoning and emailing my staff. They do such a fantastic job and always with a smile.
Children in Need
It was lovely to have Pudsey on the gate with me today. He was wearing his mask and enjoyed waving at all the children. This morning, we had already raised £1572.00 for this great charity and I know this has been gradually creeping up during the day. 100 Club
I'm really pleased to announce that, after a lot of hard work by Tamsin Bryant to set this up, this week we have received a licence to run a 100 club at Sheen Mount!
To select your lucky number email sm100club@gmail.com or there will also be a lucky dip at the PSA stand at the Christmas Fair. We have been talking about doing this for many years and I am so glad that it is finally up and running.
School Photos
We always have a catch-up session for children who have missed their individual photo session. Due to the number of UKS2 children who are currently doing secondary school visits and examinations, we have decided to postpone this session until the Spring Term so that all children, and their siblings, can be photographed together. We will, of course, let you know when this is.
Sports News
This week we have taken part in two sporting events. Here are the Year 6 children to tell you all about them.
On Wednesday 17th November, the Year 5 and 6 girls’ football team went to Teddington to play in a tournament alongside at least 30 other teams. The team consisted of Lotte, Meri, Ursi, Ava, Evie, Molly, Maya, Martha, Artemis and Liberty, who all showed good teamwork and played well. The day started with pool matches and the team won 4 and drew 1. This meant that they were through to the Cup competition. After lunch, the knockout stages began. First of all, was St John’s, who the team beat 1:0. Then we played Barnes and there was an excellent last minute goal to secure a 1:0 win. The next match was a replay of the only drawn game in the pool round as the team played St Mary’s and St Peter’s. This was a difficult match for Sheen Mount, but our girls came out on the winning side yet again with a 1:0 result! Now for the finals. Sheen Mount had to face a challenging and skilful team in the final, called Collis. Despite trying their best, Sheen Mount tragically were beaten 0:3. Although they didn’t win, the Sheen Mount team were still pleased with their 2nd place medals and would happily represent the school again. The team would like to thank Mr March and Mrs Hopwood for their support on the day.
Then, on Thursday 18th November, at 9.30am, we got on a minibus and headed to Pembroke Lodge for a 2.2km team cross-country event. The Sheen Mount team included some Year 5 and Year 6 children. In the Year 5 segment of the team were Liberty, Spyker, Oliver and Ava. In the Year 6 segment of the team were Jack, Johnny, Freddie, Tara, Ursula and Wilfie. The first race (the girls race) started at 10am and, due to traffic, the girls only had about three minutes to prepare! We are not sure of our overall result quite yet, but the girls did very well. The second race (the boys race) started at 10.20am and at the start it was really crowded and some people fell over. However, the race continued and Johnny from 6H took the lead early but was overtaken halfway through the race. A few children on our team fell over but managed to get up bravely. Once again, we are not sure about the overall positions but we would like to thank Mr March and Mrs Hayes for providing the transport and supporting us so well. Everyone enjoyed it and it was a great experience.
PSA Corner
It’s been another busy week of preparation for the full slate of upcoming events, in particular all of the activity around drop-off for the Christmas Fair. Thanks again to all who are pitching in!!
This evening, we have the Autumn Ball. Another big thanks to the Ball Committee for all their hard work in organising the event, particularly considering the unique challenges at present. Be Yourself Day (Friday 3 Dec): Kids wear their own clothes for the 'Be Yourself Day' in exchange for bringing a cake or bottle donation for the Christmas Fair - see below for more info!

A Magical Christmas (Saturday and Sunday 11/12 Dec): Kiddiewinks presents A Magical Christmas, an enchanting family show following Santa and his two elves. Huge thanks to Kathryn and Mads Hauge for the fantastic idea of holding a Christmas spectacular at Sheen Mount and for contributing a portion of the ticket sales to the PSA.
