Hello everyone,
This week we have launched our celebration of Black History Month and have been exploring the theme of 'proud to be'. Each class has had a focus on a specific person and will also be learning about, and celebrating, many other inspirational people from different backgrounds and exploring the themes of respect, tolerance and diversity. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to explore the theme of being proud and consider what makes us proud of ourselves and our own backgrounds. The children will learn about different poets, scientists, writers, musicians, activists, artists and many other people that have enriched our society and culture. We will also share our learning with other classes and continue to look at how to further diversify our curriculum.
Here are Years 1, 2 and 3 thinking about and discussing the importance of diversity, in all its different forms, in their assembly this week.
Sheen Common Playground
It is lovely to see that the Sheen Common Playground has been opened. Our Year 2 helped make some paper chains for the grand opening which was a lovely day and what a wonderful addition to the community area. Here are our paper chains at the entrance to the playground.
Do you have a child in Reception or Year 6?
Richmond School Nursing would like to remind you to register for the National Child Measurement Programme ASAP. You do not need to complete another registration if you have already registered. They appreciate you have received this link twice already but unfortunately they have not had many registrations from parents. Thank you for your help with this.
Link to register:
https://app.schoolscreener.com/Portal/#/36378/p/WH82/102897
It’s a really quick process and all you need is an email address which you have access to. Once registered you can login and add your child/ren’s details. The parent portal is GDPR compliant, so both parent and child’s personal data is safer too. Please sign up today.
Charity
In my first newsletter of the term, I told you about Milo who was aiming to raise lots of money for Afghan Aid. Well, Milo took on his charity cliff hike challenge last weekend and what a challenge it was. Fierce winds turned into a full gale force storm with hail. However, he managed to keep going for 4 hours, covering well over two thirds of the journey and then had to be rescued by the cliff patrol due to the extreme weather conditions. Thankfully, he recovered with plenty of hot chocolate and a lot of sleep. He plans to complete the last 6k in Richmond Park. What a star you are, Milo and you smashed your target of £1000 to help the people of Afghanistan. We're all very proud of you.
PSA Corner
First, a quick reminder of tonight’s Reception and Year 1 Welcome Party….... 7.30 -10.30pm in the school hall! We look forward to seeing the Year 1 parents who missed out last year as well as the new reception parents.
This week we wanted to send a huge thank you for all the fundraising that has been driven by the pupils across the different years!
Over the summer, we had a large number of classes collectively complete marathon bike rides, cycling 100s and 100s of miles and raising thousands of £s for Sheen Mount. Rabbits/Moles, Dormice/Otters, Squirrels/Hedgehogs, Doves/3C, 4MW/5D and 5B, all combined as classes to ride great distances… 3C rode 220 miles, 5B made it from Sheen Mount to Brussels and Moles made it to Paris.
Meanwhile, Poppy in 3MW did her own ride and raised £215 individually!
We have also recently had a yard sale held by Jaime, also in 3MW, which raised a further £90.
In total, these pupils have raised an impressive £2.5k for Sheen Mount! The PSA and the school appreciate everyone’s efforts on the fundraising side. Every event and amount raised makes a positive difference!! Thank you all and keep the ideas coming. If we have inadvertently left anyone out, our apologies. Please let us know and we will ensure a mention in future letters.
