Pedestrian Training
Year 3 took part in the Richmond Safe Walking pedestrian training scheme this week in the lovely sunshine. This is a practical roadside training course which encourages children to think about the dangers of traffic, understand and deal with hazards and to plan routes that make use of crossing facilities where they are available. As so many of them walk or scoot to school, this is an extremely important part of their physical wellbeing and is also part of our Relationships, RSE and Health Education policy which says children need to recognise, predict and assess risks in different situations and decide how to manage them responsibly.
Covid
You will have seen from the email yesterday that we have had a positive Covid case in the school and currently have a class and 3 members of staff isolating. This is a reminder for us all that the virus is still around us in the community and we cannot be complacent about the rules and regulations we have put in place to keep everybody safe. We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about our shared responsibility and to respectfully encourage you to keep adhering to the rules to limit the spread of the virus. This means maintaining the recommended distance from each other in the queues and wearing a face mask - it has been particularly noticeable this week that people are forgetting to, or choosing not to, do this. Please can we also encourage you to think carefully about the number of people you are meeting outside of school. We are just as frustrated as you about the situation we find ourselves in and cannot wait until we can return to normal. However, we are a large school and with around 700 children and adults on site each day, we are very aware of the potential for the spread of the virus and our responsibility to keep everyone healthy. Thank you for supporting us with this.
Drop off arrangements
Thanks for rolling with the changes to the drop-off this morning as we tried to keep everyone as dry as possible. Mrs Paemen has just about dried out but my shoes are still squelching! This trial allowed us to see how a more ‘whole school’ socially distanced drop off could work and we think that with the maintenance of a fluid stagger, we might be able to manage it, with siblings being able to enter school at the same time. This will require parents to be incredibly sensitive to social distancing and the need to judge over time the best point to bring your children into school. Our proposal would be that we introduce a window of entry into school between 8:35 and 8:55. If you have one child in the school then they should aim to arrive at the following times:
Yrs 1 and 2 - 8:35
Yrs 3 and 4 - 8:40
Yrs 5 and 6 - 8:45
Reception - 8:50
All children should be in school and ready for the register to be taken at 8:55. If you have siblings you should choose the time that works best for your family. If everyone tries to come for an 8:35 drop-off this will not work and we will have to rethink. If we can trial this from next Monday and we’ll feed back as to how it is going and whether or not we can keep it going!
Please can we request that masks are still worn by all adults in the queues and that the one-way route is maintained.
Reception can be taken to their classroom fence. Year 1 and Doves can be dropped off at their classroom doors. Owls, Robins, Year 3 and 4 drop-off at the corner of the main building and Year 5 and 6 to go upstairs through the door closest to their staircase.
Have a great weekend.
