Dear Parents,
Well done to our Year 6s for their busy week with the SATs. We always ensure we give them a broad and balanced curriculum, however a Monday to Thursday of various time-pressured tests is a challenge to overcome for everyone. Fortunately for them, next week brings their five-day trip to PGL Marchants Hill (Hindhead). We wish them all the best for the various exciting activities they will take part in each day.
Thank you to Mrs O'Brien and the Year 6 team for organising a breakfast this week for the Year 6 children to get their day off to an informal, welcoming and fulsome start to the day.
End of half-term
We finish at the usual time on Friday 24th May (3.20/3.30pm). A reminder that Monday 3rd June is an INSET day and we look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 4th June - clubs will run as usual that morning.
There are various holiday options either through Mr Brown's holiday club or JAG. Due to capacity not being full, Mr Brown is opening this half-term's camp to friends of children outside Sheen Mount.

Charity day - WWF
We look forward to this event tomorrow with all the ideas from the school council. As mentioned, please don't go out and buy any clothing. A few groups of children have offered to run cake sales or similar after school to help support the event, so please bring some change.
The children have enjoyed an online assembly from the WWF this week.

School street, scooter parking and car parking
A reminder, could scooters please go in the scooter park and not in the bike park area. There is always excess space for bicycles in the areas next to the Christchurch Road entrance.
I have received two complaints this week from local neighbours around parents' parking. Please be considerate of your community and do not park across people's driveways.
An update on School Street. The second consultation event was supposed to be happening this week, but it has been delayed by those organising it. More information will be sent, but they have set a provisional date of Wednesday 5th June (pop-up 3.15-4pm and drop-in 4.30-7pm).
Sheen Mount app-local shopping
50 people have downloaded the app and 35 have signed up-so not a bad start!
This local initiative encourages you to shop locally and the school gets a % donation from the sales at local shops - all the % are stipulated on the website. Please encourage ex-parents/neighbours and anyone else not connected with the current parent body to download.
PSA events and committee
We work alongside the PSA in coordinating various events, but they could not happen without all our volunteers - thank you.
The 'call to arms' in a previous newsletter has successfully worked, and it looks like we have some secure succession planning for next year.
We also look forward to some key events coming up:
Thursday 6th June - Children's Disco
Friday 7th June - Parents' Platinum Party
Saturday 6th July - Summer Platinum Fair.
School lunches
It was Portuguese day today for the children. Thank you to the kitchen for preparing everything.
The parent event with Accent catering takes place tomorrow between 2.30-3.15pm, for those who signed up to the previously published Google form.
Painted lines
After much trial and tribulation (finding an appropriate company, involving too much rain, the wrong type of surface, wrong materials) we have finally managed to find a contractor to get the netball court in the orchard painted, along with some new 4 squares for play times.
Sports events/trips
Well done to our basketball team who went out to the Richmond Knights tournament last week. I can see from the playground how many talented players we have! They won more than half of the games they played and just missed out on a place in the semi finals.
Ambassadors- DT
It's the turn of the DT ambassadors this week
In our roles as Design and Technology Ambassadors, we have many discussions about how DT is being taught throughout the school and how we could link it to other parts of our curriculum. We have also been working hard on how we could provide more DT sessions outside our normal lessons. Therefore, we are excited to announce that after half-term, we will be leading a lunchtime club for a few selected students from Year 3-6. During these sessions, we will be creating a project using different techniques and building on skills we have already learnt during our lessons.
As it is the school's 70th Anniversary, we will also be discussing how we could celebrate this. We look forward to seeing what we will create and cannot wait to begin the DT lunchtime club to share our vast knowledge and creative ideas.
Thank you for reading,

Charity campaign - Mollie Joyce 4H
Mollie found out about the amazing work that the Little Princess Trust do to provide real hair wigs to children that have lost their hair through cancer treatment and wanted to support them.
She has made the brave decision to have her hair cut to provide a free wig to a child but needs your help to ensure that this amazing charity can still continue to provide these free of charge to the children that need them. She is having her hair cut on the 29th June by her Auntie and needs your help and support to raise sponsor money.
