Year 3 pictured above with their reusable bag prototypes and finished products. We loved our textiles project in the Autumn Term!
Year 5 are our resident bread-baking experts! They wowed the school with their innovative recipe ingredients.
Reception enjoyed making flatbread and learning some top tips from a group of Year 5 pupils!
At Sheen Mount the Design and technology curriculum helps all children to become discerning and informed consumers and potential innovators. It provides children with a greater awareness and understanding of how everyday products are designed and made. By the time the children leave us in Year 6, they will have a secure grasp of practical skills with an understanding of aesthetic, social and environmental issues.
Our aims are:
-
to develop creative thinking in children and to enable them to articulate what they like and dislike when engaged with the design and making process;
-
to enable children to articulate how things work, to draw and model their ideas;
-
to encourage children to select appropriate tools and techniques for making a product, whilst following safe procedures;
-
to facilitate enjoyment, satisfaction and purpose in designing and making;
-
to use computing software to assist our designing and learning process.
We teach the children at Sheen Mount to possess practical skills and knowledge for the following purposes:
-
to develop creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
-
to build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
-
to critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
-
to understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook basic dishes.
