Year 1 have had a lovely first two weeks back since half term!

Today we have enjoyed dressing up as part of World Book Day and we wrote about our chosen characters. We also shared books with Year 5 classes as well. 

In English we have begun exploring poetry. We performed some poems using actions and expression. Then we looked at rhyming words and tried to come up with as many as we could to creat a word bank. This then helped us when we wrote our own rhyming poem. We have also explored alliteration and wrote a poem to go with our class mascots. 

In maths we have been continuing with addition and subtraction using the part whole model. We also used this to find missing numbers. 

In science we have begun our new topic of animals. We have been grouping animals into the correct group and discussing the similarities and differences. 

We have also been looking at our local area in geography and discussing the terms rural and urban. We sorted some pictures into these categories as well.
