We are very weather focused at the moment in year 1 (where has the sun gone?) as it is our current geography topic. Last week we practised reading a weather forecast by looking at symbols, which was perfect for predicting whether we could have our Coronation picnic outside or not. Luckily, after a torrential downpour, the sun made a brief appearance so that we did not have to eat soggy sandwiches and a wonderful time was had by all!

Over the past couple of weeks, the children have really enjoyed listening to, reading, acting and retelling a variety of traditional tales. For the next few weeks, our focus will move onto fables. Fables are stories with a moral. Can you think of any you know? Slow and steady wins the race maybe... This week’s moral is ‘You don’t have to be big to be a big friend!’ Can you guess which fable it comes from? In maths, we are continuing with division by grouping objects equally before we move on to fractions next week.

Finally, in art, we started a unit on sculptures. Last week, inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy, we took our lesson outside and made sculptures using natural materials (please see an example of one of our fabulous creations above!) We hope you have a lovely weekend! The year 1 team.
