Year 2 archaeologists!
What a great first week we have had in Year 2! The children have settled well and have been enthusiastic about our new topics.
In history we became archaeologists and went for a dig around our school grounds. We found a map, some pottery and an old newspaper all from 1666! We linked these objects to the time of the Great Fire of London and then came up with some questions about the fire and what we would like to find out more about it this term.
In science, we took part in an experiment. We mixed cornflour and water together and observed closely any changes. After a while we began to notice that the mixture had set and become very sticky. We particularly enjoyed getting messy and feeling the gloop once it had set!
In maths, we have been counting and ordering numbers up to 20 and beyond. We have also been recognising tens and ones within numbers and drawing these using diennes.
In English, we have read our core text 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. We enjoyed taking part in some drama and hot seating the crayons discussing how they were feeling. We then wrote chose one of the crayons to write a character description using adjectives.
