Order! Order!

The children in Year 6 visited the Houses of Parliament last Tuesday to see democracy in action.

They were able to enter the Chamber of the House of Lords and listen from the public gallery to the Chancellor of the Exchequer as she outlined some of her plans in the House of Commons. Throughout the day, the children learnt about the different roles of Members of Parliament, the Government, the House of Commons, the House of Lords and the monarch in the creation of new laws.  As we moved around the Palace of Westminster, we were able to look around and admire one of the most important buildings in our country and think about the numerous historical events that have taken place within its walls such as the trials of the ill-fated Guy Fawkes and Charles I. Thanks to Mrs Sroka for all her hard work in planning such an interesting trip!
